Atlantic Sapphire

Atlantic Sapphire
Atlantic Sapphire, a Norwegian company, is the global leader in land-raised salmon farming. Atlantic Sapphire has the potential to change the ocean net pen industry as it exists today, tethered to Chile, Norway and the North Atlantic, and ultimately transform protein production globally.  Founded in 2011, Atlantic Sapphire is led by successful serial salmon industry entrepreneur, Johan E. Andreassen. The company has surpassed technology proof of concept and has commercialized the production of beautiful, 4-5kg fish out of its Denmark operation.  In March, 2017, the company began construction to establish its phase 1 US operation, an approx. 380,000 sq. ft. facility in the Homestead area of Miami-Dade county. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2018.  According to Tony Villamil, The Washington Economics Group, Inc., the economic impact of this Atlantic Sapphire facility is estimated to exceed 2,700 jobs annually, by 2020.  In July, 2017 the company completed a $70 million equity capital raise and went public in Norway, in addition to securing a $62 million debt financing commitment from DNB (Norway), the global leader in seafood lending, in participation with EKF (Denmark’s export credit agency).
